| Jim Parker and Oso Simple are great children's entertainers who also write unforgettable songs for our own generation. |
I share the love of my fellow- Canadians for the brilliance of Leonard Cohen and the late Oscar Peterson(1). I am enchanted by the grace of Amy Sky, (2) her beautiful writing, and the way she sings from the heart, to the heart. I appreciate the music and charitable world view of John Kay. (3) The soundscapes of Orleans are almost as wonderful as the personalities of the band members.(4) The world would have less sunshine without the music and comedy of the Arrogant Worms, Moxy Fruvous, the Barenaked Ladies, and the formidable Wendell Ferguson. (5) Jann Arden's intelligent communication, Amanda Marshall's strong delivery, Joni Mitchell and Damhnait Doyle's expressive lyrics, and Sarah McLachlan's airy, gutsy vocals make Canadian female artists proud of their gentle power. And of course the great Anne Murray set the standard for all of us. I also love the energy of Great Big Sea, the amazing writing of Gordon Lightfoot, and Chad Kroeger's (6) earthy vocals. Five of Ontario's greatest female indie-artists today are Selena, Linda M, (7), Ilse Themen, Lynn Harrison, Katherine Wheatley, (8) & Suzie Vinnick. (9) As a lifelong inspiration and success story, no trail-blazer has the skills or grace of Bonnie Raitt. (10) I wish KT Tunstall and her wonderful band the continued 'power to be, the power to give, the power to see' (11) Jacquie Juriansz and Julie Michels (12) are singers and vocal coaches of generous energy. The most idealistic lyricist, and one of the most creative guitar players I've known, is Dale Russell. (13) Steppenwolf's Ronnie Hurst calls Dale "an international talent, who never overplays, but can lay down a blistering solo." He's also one of the best friends a musician can have. Ellen Drake (14) believes in the power of positive connections. Her "Big Schmooze" has fostered great musical alliances in Toronto. Patrick Stephenson's (15) production combines innovative brilliance with a major groove. I'm haunted by the driven creativity of Beethoven, and the lavish notes of Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, & Handel. My mother (16) was my first original music mentor, filling my ears with loving rhymes and funny songs. |

| Finally, I dedicate this page to Dale Russell and Don Quarles (17,18) who have devoted their energies to helping young people get more out of life through music. |
